GENERAL INFORMATION
- Jasminum sambac (Arabian jasmine or Sambac jasmine) is a species of jasmine native to tropical Asia.
- It is from the Indian subcontinent to Southeast Asia as an ornamental plant and for its strongly scented flowers.
- The sweet, heady fragrance of Jasminum sambac is its distinct feature.
- Typically, the flowers are harvested as buds during the early morning.
- The flower buds are harvested on the basis of color, as firmness and size are variables depending on the weather.
- The buds have to be white, as green ones may not emit the characteristic fragrance they are known for.
- Open flowers are generally not harvested as a larger amount of them is needed to extract oils and they lose their fragrance sooner.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Most jasmine cultivars do best in rich, well-draining soil.
- Whether you're planting your jasmine in the ground or in a pot, prepare the soil by working in a 2-inch layer of compost.
- This will ensure that the jasmine produces healthy flowers throughout the growing season.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- A 7-9-5 fertilizer works well for jasmine plants.
- It is 7 percent nitrogen, which ensures lush, healthy, green leaves;
- 9 percent phosphorus for abundant, large flowers;
- And 5 percent potassium for strong roots and improved resistance to diseases, insects, and drought.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- All jasmines grow well in full sun or part shade.
- "Sun" is usually defined as six or more hours of direct sunlight per day and "part shade" refers to two to four hours of sun per day.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- Jasmine plants need a lot of water, especially when they are in bloom.
- It is best to always keep the soil slightly moist.
- The plants should be watered on a weekly basis, but if the soil becomes dry before that, water the plant early.
