GENERAL INFORMATION
- Begonia is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Begoniaceae.
- The genus contains more than 1,800 different plant species.
- The Begonias are native to moist subtropical and tropical climates.
- Some species are commonly grown indoors as ornamental houseplants in cooler climates.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- All begonias prefer well-drained soil rich in compost or organic matter and some like some degree of shade.
- Semperflorens and tree begonias however tolerate more light than the others.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Apply 10-10-10 liquid fertilizer diluted at a ratio of three parts water to one part fertilizer when you first plant (or transplant) your begonias and approximately every three weeks thereafter.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Most begonias grow best in part shade (4 to 6 hours of direct morning sun a day), or filtered sun (as through trees).
- Most will tolerate full shade (no direct or filtered sun), but won't be as dense and usually have fewer flowers.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- The main rule of thumb for watering begonias is to not let the soil dry out completely.
- Stick your finger into the soil, and if it dry to your first knuckle, it's time to water.
