GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Cactaceae Epiphyllum, also known as the Orchid Cactus, is a genus of epiphytic cacti native to Central and South America.
  • It is a unique and beautiful plant, with long, flat, and segmented stems that can grow up to 3 feet in length.
  • The stems have a leaf-like appearance and are covered in spines or small hairs.
  • Cactaceae Epiphyllum produces large, showy flowers in a wide range of colors, including pink, red, orange, and white.
  • The flowers bloom at night and last for several days.
  • It prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, and is tolerant of both drought and humidity.
  • Cactaceae Epiphyllum is a low-maintenance plant that is easy to care for and suitable for indoor or outdoor growing.
  • It is a popular choice for hanging baskets or as a trailing plant on a shelf or windowsill.
  • Cactaceae Epiphyllum is a beautiful and unique addition to any collection of cacti or succulents, adding a touch of tropical elegance to any space.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • Standard cactus mix likely isn’t rich enough for your epiphyllum plant.
  • Instead, create a soil mix from standard potting mix, peat moss, and some sand.
  • The mixture should be light and well-draining, so add perlite if necessary.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER

  • Use a diluted fertilizer of 10-10-10 during the growth periods in spring and fall.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  • Full morning sun but shelter from high noon light is best for their growth.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • The rule in raising Epiphyllums is to not let the roots completely dry out.
  • Allow the top 1/3 of the soil to dry out before watering.
  • Overwatering is the greatest danger in raising these cacti.
