GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Rhipsalis is a genus of epiphytic cacti native to Central and South America.
  • It is a unique and interesting plant, with thin, trailing stems that can reach up to 6 feet in length.
  • The stems are segmented and often have a flattened, leaf-like appearance.
  • Rhipsalis produces small, white or cream-colored flowers in the spring or summer, followed by small, fleshy berries.
  • It prefers bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, and is tolerant of both drought and humidity.
  • Rhipsalis is a low-maintenance plant that is easy to care for and suitable for indoor or outdoor growing.
  • It is a popular choice for hanging baskets or as a trailing plant on a shelf or windowsill.
  • Rhipsalis is also a great plant for adding a touch of tropical or desert-inspired flair to any space.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • They prefer slightly moist, but not wet soil, but ensure they have ample time to dry out to avoid water buildup in the soil that can rot the roots.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

  • It does not need feeding until the soil begins to become depleted of nutrients.
  • If feeding is desired, use a diluted, half-strength fertilizer formulated for cacti.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  • It prefers bright, indirect light and can tolerate direct morning and evening light.
  • The best place to put it is at least a few feet removed from a window, but Rhipsalis is an extremely hardy plant.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • During the pre-flowering period, reduce watering, letting the top ½ inch of soil dry out between waterings.
  • Rhipsalis do not like hard water and should, ideally, be watered with rainwater.
