GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Acacia dealbata is native to Australia.
  • Acacia dealbata (mimosa tree, blue wattle or silver wattle) is a fast-growing, evergreen tree, with finely divided, fern-like leaves and bright yellow, fragrant flowers that look like fluffy yellow balls.
  • There's usually no need to prune but if you want to keep it at a particular size or shape it responds well to pruning.
  • Its bark is thinner than that of Acacia decurrens, and is silvery gray in appearance. The young shoots and foliage are also of the same color. It blooms profusely, producing large quantities of yellow flowers.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • Acacia prefers well-draining soil that is slightly acidic to neutral (pH range of 6.0-7.5).
  • The soil should be sandy or loamy with good drainage.
  • Avoid heavy clay soils or soils that retain too much moisture, as this can cause root rot.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

  • Acacia does not require frequent fertilization, but it can benefit from occasional feeding.
  • Use a slow-release, balanced fertilizer with a higher phosphorus content to promote blooming.
  • Apply fertilizer in early spring and early fall for best results.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  • Acacia prefers full sun and can tolerate high temperatures.
  • It requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
  • It can also grow in partial shade, but growth may be slower.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • Acacia is drought-tolerant and can survive in low water conditions, but it prefers regular watering.
  • Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on the soil and weather conditions.
  • Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot.
