GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Hydrangea paniculata, also known as Panicle Hydrangea
  • The flowers of Hydrangea are carried in bunches, at the ends of the stems.
  • Flowers start green, turn white, then go back to green before turning pink/burgundy in autumn
  • The color the blooms turn is a genetic trait that develops with the natural aging of the cells in the florets, and is not influenced by any condition in the soil, like pH level. You can’t change panicle hydrangeas’ color by treating with aluminum sulfate or planting in acidic soil.

SOIL REQUIREMENT

  • Any well-drained soil will do. Some drought tolerance on established plants.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT

  • Fertilize once in early spring with a rose fertilizer if desired

LIGHT REQUIREMENT

  • Panicle Hydrangea love being close to bright, sunny windows.  Place it less than 1ft from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth. Panicle Hydrangea does not tolerate low-light
  • Even as sun lovers Panicle Hydrangea have their limits. Shade during peak hours can save your Panicle Hydrangea from a sunburn. Think of mulch as sunscreen for the soil; it keeps the roots cool and the moisture locked in. A sheer curtain or a leafy tree can serve as a parasol, giving your hydrangea the break it needs. Remember, it's about balance—enough light for growth, but not so much that your plant gets burned.

WATER REQUIREMENT

  • Panicle Hydrangea prefers for the soil to dry out between waterings and should be watered regularly.
  • Watering in the morning will help prevent hydrangeas from wilting during hot days.
