GENERAL INFORMATION
- Psidium guajava, the common guava, yellow guava, or lemon guava, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
- It is easily pollinated by insects; in culture, mainly by the common honey bee, Apis mellifera.
- Guava produces low drooping branches from the base and suckers from the roots.
- The trunk is slender, 20 cm in diameter, covered with a smooth green to red-brown bark that peels off in thin flakes..
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- The guava grows well in any type of soil conditions but will produce better in rich soils high in organic matter.
- They also prefer well-drained soil in the pH range of 5 to 7.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- The use of a guava tree fertilizer with a 6-6-6-2 (nitrogen–phosphorus–potassium–magnesium) ratio is recommended.
- For each feeding, scatter the fertilizer evenly on the ground, starting a foot (30 cm.) from the trunk, then spreading out to the tree drip line.

LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Plant guava in full sun
- In dessert, regions plant guava in partial shade or protect plants from the midday sun.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- Guavas have survived dry summers with no water, although they do best with regular deep watering.
- The ground should be allowed to dry to a depth of several inches before watering again.
