GENERAL INFORMATION
- The popular fruit rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum L.) is a tropical fruit belonging to the soapberry or soap‐nut family Sapindaceae, which also yields other popular tropical fruits, notably longan, mata kucing, and lychee.
- There are many scientific reports showing the beneficial health effects and medicinal uses of rambutan.
- Rambutan fruits have also been studied for their anti‐diabetic or glucose-lowering properties.
- The nutritional and medicinal properties of rambutan have been attributed to the phenolics or volatile constituents present in different parts of the plant.
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Prefers clay loam soil, though it can be grown in a wide range of soil types, even ones with poor drainage, so long as they are not water-logged.
- Requires a moist fertile acid soil rich in organic matter.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Fertilize with a food that is 55g potash, 115g phosphate, and 60g urea at six months and again at one year of age.
- At two years old, fertilize with a food that is 165g potash, 345g phosphate, and 180g urea.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Prefers a sunny position, though young trees appreciate the shelter and dappled shade of trees growing overhead.
