GENERAL INFORMATION
- The Brightwell blueberry is a rabbiteye variety, known for its vigorous growth and high yields of sweet, medium-sized berries. It's well-suited for warmer climates and is often used in both home gardens and commercial orchards.
- Brightwell blueberries can be grown in containers for smaller spaces.
- Fruit: Medium-sized, sweet, and firm berries with good flavor
- Disease and Pest Resistance: Generally resistant to common blueberry pests and diseases
- Pollination: Partially self-fertile, but yields improve with cross-pollination with other rabbiteye varieties like Powder Blue, Tifblue, or Climax.
- Chill Hours: Requires 350-400 chill hours
- Growth Habit: Vigorous, upright, and can reach 10-15 feet if planted in the ground and unpruned.
- The berries are firm and round, making them suitable for fresh market sales and packing
SOIL REQUIREMENT
- Blueberries require the soil to have a pH between 4.3 to 5.5 pH.
- This is unique because most fruit and vegetable plants do best in a relatively neutral pH soil between about 6.5-7.5.
- Growing blueberries between 6.5-7.5 would cause them to have slow, weak growth, yellowish leaves, and little to no fruit.

FEEDING/FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT
- Ammonium sulfate is the most commonly recommended blueberry fertilizer for ensuring the pH of the soil remains acidic.
- Typically, 2 to 4 ounces per bush per year is adequate to maintain an established pH between 4.5 and 5.1.
- You can also try the recommended Fertilizer for fruits below.
LIGHT REQUIREMENT
- Full sun of at least six to eight hours of sunlight.
WATER REQUIREMENT
- It requires at least one inch of water per week (65 gals./100 sq. ft.).
- You must supplement rainfall when necessary.
- Overhead (sprinkler) irrigation can be used on blueberries, but trickle or drip irrigation is preferred because it conserves moisture and does not wet the foliage.
